African migrants and refugees, caught for several hours on the border fence between Spain’s North African enclave of Melilla and Morocco, look down on white-clad golfers. (See details here). This striking and surreal photo reminded me Ulrich Beck’s observation: “No wall can protect the countries of the centre from the humanitarian disasters occurring in the other parts of the world.” (Power in the Global Age: A New Global Political Economy, 2005, p. xv)
This is starting to look much like all societies across the globe 🙂 … and the fences and walls will have to come down eventually…
